Here at North 78 Pet Hospital, we are passionate about doing what’s best to ensure lifelong health for each patient. When you bring your pet to us for wellness care, our veterinarians will perform a nose-to-tail exam, checking their skin, coat, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, teeth, and more! Our goal is to identify future problems as early as possible and help you make the right decision by customizing a preventative care plan tailored to your pet. This will include vaccines, parasite control, nutrition and weight management and anything else we deem necessary for your pet. Did you know?
  • Your pet can have a flea allergy, it just takes one bite to make their skin break out into a rash.
  • An adult female flea can lay up to 2,000 eggs in her short life span of just 3-6 weeks. Which means, infestations can start fast!
  • It can take over 3 months to break a flea infestation.
  • Ticks can live up to 200 days without food or water.
  • Ticks are carriers for multiple diseases!
  • It only takes one bite from a infection mosquito for your pet to get Heartworm disease
  • Buying heartworm prevention is less expensive than treatment
  • Preventing your pet from these parasites is much more affordable than treating your pet after exposure.
  • Intestinal parasites can cause symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, bloody stool, weight loss, and anemia but most infected pets often don’t show any signs until they are seriously ill.

Whatever the case may be, it takes minutes for your pet to get lost! Microchipping is one of the most effective methods to reduce the fear of losing your pet and improve the chances of identifying your pet if he or she is lost.

What is a Microchip?
Microchips are tiny implants that are inserted under skin, between the shoulder blades and act as identifiers. They are about the size of a grain of rice and can be inserted with a needle in a relatively painless way (no anesthesia necessary).
Each microchip contains a registration number, so anyone with a microchip scanner can access your name and contact information. Microchips are like a collar,  it is a good way to identify him or her in the event she or he gets lost and ends up at a veterinary office, animal shelter, or with an animal control officer.

What Happens if Your Pet Gets Lost?
If your pet is lost, the person who finds him/her can take him/her to a local vet or shelter to be scanned. If your microchip information is up-to-date, the scanner will find your contact information and the vet or shelter staff can give you a call. You are able to reunite with your pet and return him home easily.

Add a layer of protection, and microchip your pet! Schedule your appointment today with North 78 Pet Hospital to have your pet microchipped, and give yourself the peace of mind that comes from knowing you will always have a way to be reunited.
